The Jordan Inbound Tour Operators Association (JITOA) recently received Her Excellency Ms. Tselane Mokuena, Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa to Jordan, alongside Counselor David Nkozey, for a high-level meeting at JITOA headquarters. The delegation met with JITOA Chairman Mr. Nabih Riyal, board members, and Executive Director Ms. Lama Mahadeen to discuss expanding bilateral tourism cooperation and opening new pathways for inbound travel from South African markets.
Discussions focused extensively on faith tourism, highlighting Jordan’s rich religious and historical heritage. Both sides explored actionable opportunities to attract spiritual travelers by developing specialized itineraries centered on the Kingdom's iconic biblical sites. A key topic was the strategic significance of the upcoming 2030 milestone on the global religious tourism calendar, aiming to firmly position Jordan as a premier Christian pilgrimage destination worldwide.
Recognizing South Africa as a key growth market, participants underscored the necessity of early preparation. Plans were discussed to organize targeted promotional roadshows across major South African cities, directly connecting Jordanian tour operators with regional travel buyers to build joint commercial packages. Her Excellency Ambassador Mokuena expressed strong support for advancing cultural and tourism exchanges.
This diplomatic initiative reflects JITOA’s ongoing strategy to expand its international diplomatic network, diversify source markets, and capitalize on the long-term growth potential of global religious tourism leading up to 2030 and beyond.
