The Jordan Inbound Tour Operators Association (JITOA) has partnered with several international organizations to strengthen Jordan’s tourism sector. These collaborations supported capacity-building, sustainable tourism practices, product development, and greater access to global markets. Below is an overview of JITOA’s key former partnerships and their contributions.
CBI
The Centre for the Promotion of Imports from developing countries (CBI), an agency of the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, works to connect small and medium-sized enterprises from developing countries with European markets. Between 2021 and 2025, the Jordan Inbound Tour Operators Association (JITOA), together with the Jordan Tourism Board, partnered with CBI through its Tourism Jordan export coaching programme. This initiative aimed to strengthen Jordan’s tourism sector by supporting tour operators in diversifying and enhancing sustainable tourism products, improving service quality, and accessing European markets. As part of this collaboration, JITOA members benefited from a series of workshops and trainings designed to build capacity, expand expertise, and align with international best practices.
USAID
Over the years, the Jordan Inbound Tour Operators Association (JITOA) has collaborated closely with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through a variety of tourism development projects. These efforts have focused on building the capacity of Jordan’s tourism workforce and strengthening the role of inbound tour operators in enhancing the country’s competitiveness as a destination. Initiatives included specialized training programs and capacity-building opportunities for JITOA members.
In recent years, JITOA and USAID have also worked together on projects that supported the sector’s growth and resilience, such as conducting a study on the challenges facing inbound tour operators, delivering online training on customer experience management during the COVID-19 pandemic, and jointly promoting Jordan internationally as a leading MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) destination. These collaborations have left a lasting impact by improving service standards, empowering JITOA members, and contributing to the sustainable development of Jordan’s tourism industry.
GIZ
The Jordan Inbound Tour Operators Association (JITOA) has partnered with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to strengthen the competitiveness and sustainability of Jordan’s tourism sector. Through initiatives under GIZ’s employment-oriented and MSME promotion projects, the collaboration has focused on capacity-building for local tourism businesses, promoting sustainable tourism practices, and supporting the development of diverse local tourism experiences. These joint efforts have helped JITOA members expand their offerings, empowered local communities, and enhanced the overall quality and appeal of Jordan’s tourism products.
JICA
The Jordan Inbound Tour Operators Association (JITOA) has partnered with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of Jordan’s tourism sector. Through initiatives under JICA’s tourism development projects, the collaboration has focused on strengthening the capacity of local tourism businesses, promoting sustainable tourism practices, and supporting the development of diverse local tourism experiences. These joint efforts have helped JITOA members expand their offerings, empower local communities, and enhance the overall quality and appeal of Jordan’s tourism products.
MEDUSA (Mediterranean Sustainable Adventure Tourism) Project
The MEDUSA (Mediterranean Sustainable Adventure Tourism) project, co-financed by the European Union under the ENI CBC Med Programme, aimed to develop and promote sustainable adventure tourism across the Mediterranean, focusing on off-season travel and lesser-known destinations. As a key Jordanian partner, JITOA played a central role by conducting market research, organizing workshops and training for local tourism providers, developing new adventure tourism products, and supporting marketing efforts to position Jordan as a sustainable adventure tourism destination. The project brought together seven partners from five countries—including RSCN (Jordan), Barcelona Chamber of Commerce (Spain), Rene Moawad Foundation (Lebanon), Puglia Region (Italy), and WWF Mediterranean North Africa (Tunisia)—collaborating to strengthen tourism competitiveness, foster sustainable practices, and boost local economies throughout the region.
