In collaboration with the Salt Development Corporation (SDC), JITOA successfully organized a memorable FAM Trip to the historic city of Al-Salt on Sunday, November 30th. The journey offered participants an enriching cultural experience, showcasing the city’s remarkable heritage, warm hospitality, and unique tourism offerings.

The day began at the Salt Development Association, where participants were welcomed by Mr. Khaldoun Khreisat, Manager of SDC, and Mr. Mahmoud Arabiyyat, Director of Tourism, who both delivered insightful presentations on Al-Salt’s development, its path toward UNESCO World Heritage recognition, and ongoing community-led tourism initiatives. Their combined overview provided participants with a comprehensive introduction to the city’s unique identity and its evolving role in Jordan’s tourism landscape.

From there, the group moved to the Al-Salt Visitors Center, exploring the SDC Photo Gallery and gaining a deeper appreciation for the city’s historical and architectural identity. They then continued to the ceramic workshop, where artisans showcased the enduring craftsmanship of Salt’s cultural heritage.

The cultural journey continued at Touqan House (Beit Touqan) – Archaeological Museum, one of Al-Salt’s most distinguished heritage homes. Originally built for the prominent Touqan family—one of the city’s influential merchant families—the house stands as a testament to late Ottoman-era architecture, featuring beautifully carved stonework, traditional interiors, and historical artifacts that narrate Al-Salt’s social and cultural evolution.

The journey into the heart of the city began with a leisurely stroll along the historic Hammam Street, followed by visits to both the Latin Church and Al-Khader Orthodox Church, two landmarks symbolizing Al-Salt’s legacy of coexistence.

Midday, participants enjoyed a delightful brunch with panoramic views at the City Balcony Restaurant, offering a moment to pause and take in the beauty of the city.

The cultural immersion continued with an authentic traditional Salt wedding experience, offering participants a vivid look into the city’s rich heritage and cherished social customs. Guests were introduced to the meaningful rituals that shape a Salt wedding, from the warm community gathering to the symbolic practices that reflect family unity and local traditions. This heartfelt encounter showcased the generosity, hospitality, and deep-rooted cultural identity that make Salt’s celebrations truly unforgettable.

Before heading to explore the grandeur of the Abu Jaber House—one of Al-Salt’s most iconic heritage mansions—the group continued their journey through the city’s rich cultural layers. They then made their way to Sahat Al-Ain and The Great Mosque, two essential landmarks reflecting Al-Salt’s vibrant history and communal spirit.

As the afternoon continued, the group visited Dar Al-Hiraf – Crafts House, followed by a stop at Dukkan Al-Salt, a popular spot for local products and artisan goods.

The day concluded with a visit to the Henna Museum, a unique cultural site dedicated to preserving and showcasing the traditional art of henna in Jordan. Participants explored the museum’s exhibits, learning about the history, symbolism, and intricate techniques behind henna design, which has been an integral part of Jordanian celebrations and rituals for centuries. After the museum tour, attendees enjoyed free time to explore the historic city center, wander through Al-Salt’s charming alleys, interact with local merchants, and fully immerse themselves in the authentic atmosphere of this cultural gem.
