Many women that came from Syria are widowed or had to leave their husbands behind. They arrived in Jordan as the sole breadwinners for their families. Only 7% of Syrian women in Jordan are employed. Syrian Jasmine House seeks to address that by providing jobs and income.
They employ 70 women - the majority are Syrian but group also includes Iraqi and Palestinian. They have a goal of increasing the women they work with to 200 in 2018. They have trained more than 1000 women on the art of handicrafts. The company received a donation to fund the trainings however they do not depend on donations; they are a business at the end of the day.
Ancient Ayla
To the far south of Jordan, about 380 km from the capital Amman, you will find the only sea port of the Kingdom overlooking the oasis of Ayla. Shaded by palm trees, Ayla sits along a coast rich in coral reefs and amazing marine life – not to mention thousands of years of history. Just beyond the bustling streets, shops, restaurants, hotels, and resorts that characterize modern-day Aqaba, you can visit the city’s historic heart.
If you want to take a break from enjoying Aqaba's beautiful beaches, just take a short walk to this site and you will discover a part of this city you may never have imagined. The Islamic city of Ayla was one of the most important seaports in the Middle East, linking Syria, Egypt, and the Arabian Peninsula. It was an important center of copper smelting, and products made with copper, brought in from nearby Wadi Araba, became one of the most important trades for the people of Aqaba, in addition to ship building, and sea fishing.

BookAgri.com was established in July 2015 as a platform for showcasing agri-rural tourism businesses and farm activities and connecting the visitor with a range of agritourism experiences. This global website helps shed light on the importance of agritourism and is open to related businesses to register and gain access to the visitor market. By bringing this business to the forefront of the global market we encourage self-employment, while helping people develop a respect for nature.
Agritourism helps farmers maintain their farms and stay in the farming business by using their skills to produce authentic products and share experiences with visitors as an added source of income. Once the farmer’s profiles are on the website they will be accessible to those interested in BookAgri and its agritourism business. BookAgri.com will reach millions of people across the globe and hopefully change their lives in the process.
