Amman – Jordan : Today March, 28th, 2016, Jordan Inbound Tour Operators Association (JITOA) held the 3rd of its “Power Breakfast" events, under the Patronage of H.E. Mr. Nayef Al-Fayez and the ambassador of India H.E. Mr. Anil Trigunayat, as a guest speaker with the theme "Jordan between reality and perception, its effect on the tourism sector – focus on emerging markets".

The breakfast, which was open for the first time to non JITOA members, was primarily attended by active and associate members of the association including tour operators, hotels, transportation companies, and tourism investment companies such as Ayla Oasis. In addition to a number of VIP guests from Petra Regional Authority, Ministry of Tourism, Jordan Tourism Board, tourism associations, airlines, USAID among others.

In her speech Ms. Ghada Al Najjar - JITOA Chairman, disclosed the importance of organizing the series of power breakfasts which aims at bringing our members with local and international high level officials and tourism experts, who are able to shed light on various topics in relation to tourism and provide quality networking opportunities for our members with other tourism sector players. “At JITOA, we have been spearheading several initiatives in an effort to increase public and private cooperation and promote Jordan’s tourism. Most recent was the participation at the ACE of MICE exhibition with our members, alongside JTB and RJ, which was supported by the USAID-funded BEST project” Ms. Najjar mentioned.

The choice to invite Indian ambassador H.E. Mr. Anil Trigunayat today, comes from the fact that the Indian market is one of the fastest growing emerging markets in the world. Jordan liberalized visa regime for Indian nationals in November 2009. Indian tourists visiting Jordan now get 'visa on arrival'. As a result of the new visa regime, the number of Indian tourists in Jordan increased to more than 55,000 in 2013, up from 30,900 in 2009 (78% increase).

Ambassador Trigunayat shared with the attendees his personal experience in Jordan, as a tourist and as a resident. He confirmed his strong belief in that Jordan has a lot to offer Indian and any other tourists through the diversity of Jordan's natural and historic products, as well as the incredible hospitality of its people. The ambassador also mentioned that in order to increase the number of tourists visiting Jordan, we need to have less restrictive entry procedures where he said “Indians are not worried about the political problems or problems with boarder countries they want to come to Jordan make it easy for them”.

Dr. Abdel Razzaq Arabiyat, Managing Director of Jordan Tourism Board (JTB), added on the importance of capitalizing on the various attractions, particularly Christian and Muslim religious sites, in addition to encouraging all those concerned in the industry, be it private or public, to work together to combat the negative image of Jordan. He mentioned spending 800,000 JD’s for consumer campaigns to make Jordan the destination of choice for M.I.C.E, religious sites, wellness resorts and weddings. Dr. Arabiyat announced that soon Air Arabia will be starting direct flights from Amman to Mumbai.

On the other hand, H.E. Mr. Issa Gammoh – MOTA Secretary General - spoke about the importance of working with India as they are the second largest exporter to Jordan. "There are 33 Indian companies in Jordan and they provide huge resources for labor, economy, foreign exchange and direct tourism" said Gammoh. He also emphasized the importance of working together with the Indian Embassy, JTB, JITOA and all concerned to attract the movie makers from Bollywood to use Jordan as a prime filming location. He invited the sector to make use of the support that JTB, ministry and minister of tourism can provide in marketing Jordan as a tourism destination among the Indian tourism trade.

The event was supported by Crowne Plaza Amman Hotel and was sponsored by Ayla Oasis and Jordan India Fertilizer Company (JIFCO).
